Runkeeper updated to utilize M7 co-processor

One of our favorite apps is Runkeeper and it was updated today to utilize Apples M7 co-processor. The new update will allow the phone to measure any activity for a period of 15 minutes or more.

Nike+ Moves was the first app to take advantage of the co-processor which logs the information from that days activities, then when the app opens it takes that data and inputs it. This way, you don’t need the app running 24×7. However, you do need to opt in to the¬†background activity tracking when you update the app and open it for the first time. The other thing you have to do is open the app at least once a day, preferably at the end of the day, to take the data from that day. With this update and the M7 co-processor, Runkeeper is trying to take shots at Fitbit and Jawbone by utilizing the iPhone’s new processor and not relying on a separate piece of hardware.
